The Plastic Flamingo
Description
The Plastic Flamingo, aka The PLAF, is a French social enterprise launched in 2019 with a pilot project in the Philippines (Manila). Their core mission is to tackle marine plastic pollution by collecting and recycling ocean-bound plastic waste in emerging countries with maximum social impact.
The collected plastic is transformed into “eco-planks” that is used to construct various products, such as emergency shelter kits for Filipinos displaced by natural disasters. These can be acquired and donated by various NGOs to the most vulnerable local communities.
The PLAF collects all types of plastic waste, including flexible plastics, through their network of collection points in Manila (schools, universities, shops, villages, buildings, offices, etc.).
